Pro Air 6 Cut Resistant Socks

If you are unfamiliar with cut resistance products. Check out our other post on the basics of cut resistant base layers here.

  • Worn and approved for use in the NHL, Pro-Air 6 is engineered with the most technical yarn on the market today. No glass or metal is used to achieve the high-level A6
  • Sixteen (16) inches high, PRO-AIR 6 socks give players 360-degree, tongue-in or out protection and go 3 eyelets into the skate boot to protect the Achilles from serious skate lacerations.

  • Treated with antimicrobial protection, we have you protected on and off the ice

Initial thoughts

Cut Shield Hockey definitely doesn’t need my endorsement, they’ve already got NHL pros and other elite players wearing their gear. I’m just an average beer leaguer, but after trying the PRO-AIR 6 cut-resistant hockey socks, I feel like I’ve joined the big leagues.

These are hands down the best cut-resistant socks I’ve ever worn, and honestly, they might be the best hockey socks period. They’re buttery soft, ultra-stretchy, and somehow still secure without feeling tight. Even though they’re one-size-fits-most, the fit was spot-on.

I prefer really high socks to prevent my shin pad straps from digging into the back of my knees. The PRO-AIR 6s were about an inch taller than I usually like, but they were so comfortable I didn’t care. I just folded them over at the top, which I’ve done with other socks—but with these, I barely noticed. They didn’t slide or bunch up.

What really blew me away was how unnoticeable they were on the ice; and that’s a good thing. I’ve worn other cut-resistant hockey socks that shifted or bunched up while I was skating, but I almost forgot I had these on.

I’m not even comparing the PRO-AIR 6 to other cut-proof hockey socks—they’re in a league of their own. I’ve tried Bauer’s cut-resistant socks before, and while they offer protection, they’re stiff, warm, and abrasive, especially after a few washes. The first time I wore the PRO-AIR 6, my legs felt so cool and breathable it was almost cold—something I’ve never experienced with other protective socks.

Durability test

I have been using these socks for a few months now. They have not changed at all. There is really nothing to say, they just work.  They still have the same un-noticeable comfort and cooling effect. I’m legitimately shocked at how well these held up after repeated abuse use and washes and they still look and feel brand new. I want to see how long it would take to break down because I don’t see that happening any time soon.

Final Thoughts

Lets get down to brass tacks, is it worth it to pay almost double the price for a pair of hockey socks? I say absolutely! Not only are these extremely comfortable, but will last you a long time and have the added bonus of cut resistance.  If you’re still dealing with stiff, scratchy socks that make your legs sweat, do yourself a favor and try the PRO-AIR 6. Whether you’re a casual player or competing at a higher level, these socks deliver the comfort, protection, and performance you need.
