What To Do During a Pandemic

So you find yourself sitting at home during the Coronavirus [Covid-19] quarantine wondering how you’re going to survive. When will your season come back? How will you lead your team in points or PIMs when your league returns? Here are some time and tricks to keep your skills and your sanity.

How to Pass the Time
Its just a fact, quarantining is super boring. Theres only so much “working from home” that you can fake. Here are some things you can do to pass the time.

Rewatch your favorite hockey movies
Since theres no olympics, watch Miracle. The best Olympics ever if you’re an American (sorry Russia). Some more options include, Mighty Ducks, Slapshot, Goon, Mystery Alaska, Youngblood, Red Army, The Rocket, Ice Guardians, and the Love Guru.

Watch some game film
Have you been neglecting your old game film? See where you can improve your game so you’re ready to go when hockey is back. Theres also no shame in rewatching the greatest one-timer you’ve ever taken in Las Vegas for the 57th time.

But There’s no NHL Games to Model My Game After
The NHL season has been postponed. So you will have to get creative. Some teams are airing simulated games from Chel 20 so be sure to watch those. Also follow your favorite players and teams on social media to see what they are up to. Play some Chel yourself too!

Lost Your Chirps?
The art of chirpery is a time acquired skill that needs to be honed and practiced. Make sure to watch plenty of Letterkenny, chirp your significant other, or your pets. They will really appreciate it. Try some gems such as “hey pooch, I’ve seen faster walks in a retirement home”, “if these eggs were any less cooked we could have chicken for dinner”.

How to Keep Up Your Skills
”The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I’ll never be as good as a wall” – Mitch Hedberg

Since you can’t get ice time you have to find a way to keep your skills up. If you live in a cold climate build yourself a rink! All you need is ice, and some plywood… and ingenuity… and a homemade Zamboni. But that’s it! If not, get some rollerblades and a street puck. Practice stick handling on your shooting pad, or you can make one out of white board material from your local essential hardware store. They come in a 4 foot by 8 foot sheet for about $15. All you need to do is spray it with some pledge and it’s good enough for a quarantine solution! There are tons of other options as well, like shooting tiles, or even flat plywood. There are so many practice options available but that’s for another article.

Last but not least

WASH YOUR GEAR

Yes you! Your gear stinks! Take this time with no hockey to thoroughly wash your gear. Take everything out of your bag to air out. You can even wash your bag in a front loading washing machine. You can make hockey soup, or check out the article on how to clean hockey gear

Wash your hands and stay indoors. Stay safe out there. Ferda
